Junior Operators

The Winchester Police Department takes the Massachusetts Junior Operator’s Law (JOL) seriously. We ask that parents help to educate their licensed children in the importance of this law. Though the JOL can seem like an inconvience to junior operators and sometimes parents, the statistics regarding junior operators are real:

In Massachusetts in 2004, there were 4,018 crashes involving 16-year-old drivers including 8 fatal crashes. Of the 11,819 16-year-old drivers, 33.9% were involved in crashes. In the same year, there were 9,387 17-year-old operators involved in crashes with 19 fatalities.*

Below, we have provided a link to the Massachusetts RMV website to assist parents in educating their young drivers.
