Wander Alert Program

The Wander Alert Program began in December of 1993 when Chief Joseph N. Perritano contacted Barbara Ciampa of the Winchester Council on Aging, concerned about the increasing number of occasions where police were encountering elderly citizens who were suffering from dementia and were wandering away from their homes. Chief Perritano saw that one way to assist the community was to start a voluntary photo file to assist officers in identifying citizens who have wandered from home. Combined with pertinent personal information (which remains confidential with the police department) officers who encounter wanderers who participate in the program are able to return them home safely. Anyone wanting more information about the program can contact Detective DeLuca at the Winchester police department by calling (781) 729-0238 or email by clicking on the detectives link.
